MBABANE – A four-man Swaziland Boxing Association (SWABA) delegation will this weekend meet their South African counterparts as their memorandum of understanding (MoU) gets implemented.

The envoys consists of President Pearl Dlamini, her deputy Webster Lukhele, Secretary General Thabsile Mngomezulu and Treasurer Vincent Sihlongonyane. SWABA and the South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO) signed a MoU in December which entails, among other things, a cooperation plan and continued engagements and assistance in different fields that include tournaments invitation, coaches and judges’ workshops.

SWABA President Dlamini described the partnership as a great milestone which will never leave boxing the same. Boxing, along with athletics and taekwondo, have been identified as one sport to greatly benefit from government and the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) Podium Performance Programme (PPP).

SANABO President Andile Mofu said they needed to put plans afoot to raise the standard in time to launch a stronger challenge at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“With the possibility of South Africa hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the two countries have to start with the preparation so as to be able to showcase both our boxing talent to the rest of the world,” Mofu said.
