LOBAMBA – If music is the food of love then the SwaziBank Cup is powered by a glut of goals. The new 14th edition of the SwaziBank Cup slogan #Yelele seemed to ignite the top guns to hammer the minnows under a glut of goals as 12 were scored in the official Grand Opening Ceremony here yesterday.

Yesterday’s 12-goal glut brought the total number of goals scored to 57 in the opening round (last 32 stage) of the magical tournament which inspite of incessant rain and a distinctively chilly weather condition, attracted a good crowd of over 4 000 people at the country’s soccer Mecca.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Paul Dlamini, Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Christopher Gamedze joined the SwaziBank Managing Director, Zakhele Lukhele in watching the Triple header which thrilled the soul with the glut of goals.

Hhohho Super League outfit, 19 Celtics, whose name would be easily mistaken for a basketball side, had their work cut out as they took on an uncompromising Manzini Wanderers buoyed by their hordes of supporters as they raced to a 2-0 first half lead through goals by Aladeon Kola in the 41st minute and a thunderbolt shot by captain Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya on the stroke of half-time. Wanderers added the third through debutante Wethu Vilakati in the 70th minute and 19 Celtics then scored a consolation goal six minutes from time through Xolani Mnisi.

Moneni Pirates, SwaziBank Champions in 2015, made their intentions as clear as the 5th minute through master dribbler, Bongani Ndzimandze and went on to score three goals through Xolani Ngwenya in the 22nd minute before striker Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze completed a brace in the 53rd and 90th minute.

Two times SwaziBank Cup champions Mbabane Highlanders wasted no time in putting struggling National First Division side, Hlathikhulu Tycoons to the sword with a 4-0 bashing. Tycoons drubbing was initiated by one of their own, defender Sizwe Mhlanga who headed a harmless-looking cross into his own net in the 9th minute before Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze added the second in the 33rd minute and Menzi Sithole went on to grab a brace in the 41st and 62nd minute.

The results, without any shocks, makes today’s last 16 stage draw at the sponsor, SwaziBank Board room at a noon a nerve-wrecking, tense affair.
