MBABANE – From the first glance in his spacious office, SwaziBank Managing Director, Zakhele Lukhele seems to be a living proof that success is dependent upon simplicity.

The gods of English have, since time immemorial, articulated that the simpler we can make things, the more successful we will be. It’s as simple as that!

The SwaziBank MD seems to be an embodiment of simplicity – soft spoken, classy yet he commands respect from the way he has a way with words, the manner he carries himself and the way he has kept the ship (bank) afloat even in the stormy seas.

Lukhele’s confidence in steering the bank to calmer waters is evident in his pursuit to keep the 13-year-old soccer extravaganza as the flagship of Swazi football. The down-to-earth managing director, who gives the impression that he would not hurt a straying fly, strongly believes the tournament has had a positive impact on the bank’s corporate image as well as positioning itself as a social responsible corporate citizen.

Lukhele also believes even though they are new players in the football landscape, the SwaziBank Cup remains unique in its own way and will remain so. He also believes the new sponsors are complimentary partners in achieving one goal, which is to develop football.
In this most candid interview to-date, ahead of the start of the 14th edition of the SwaziBank Cup with a new slogan #Yelele, with Sports Editor Lwazi Dlamini, the amiable Lukhele touches on various issues.

TIMES: Your organisation launched the 14th edition of the SwaziBank Cup on Monday, looking back, what would you say about the bank’s investment in football?
