MBABANE – Motocross Team Swazi Pride proved invincible on the muddy and bumpy track against the region’s best in South Africa recently.

Up to six local riders from the Support 50cc to the Pro Mini 85cc class were in pursuit for gold in Dirt Bronco, Johannesburg, at the Northern Region MX round one on February 11.

Team Swazi Pride had three podium finishers, who were as good as the fully-sponsored Factory Teams, who also took part on the day.
According to results from the travelling team, in the Pro 50cc class, Damon Garrell was first in heat one and second in the next, which saw him getting an overall podium position two rank.

“In the 85cc Junior Class, this is where #TeamSwaziPride shone over and above. Dylan Kirk and Blake Young gave it their all and this time around it was the latter who came first overall at the end of the two heats.

“The Pro Mini class saw our team riders Callum Matthews and Caleb Young tussling it out with some of South Africa’s top riders. They both did extremely well with Callum finishing in the top five. Caleb finished 16th after as he was adjudged to have not finished heat one,” reads a statement from the team.

In the 65cc class, Timo Toepfer and Seth Young were in the spotlight. It is their first year riding and competing in this class. They are from the 50cc class, so they are new to the bikes with a clutch.

Following a spirited display, the team endured a long trip to South Africa’s Nationals Round 1 Race in Port Elizabeth the following weekend.  Despite a challenging course, they finished second and fifth on the day, respectively.
