LOBAMBA – UNISWA students proved their proficiency beyond the lecture rooms by excelling in the Swaziland Cricket Association (SCA) awards.

Female students from the University of Swaziland (UNISWA) team were among notable cricketers, who dumped their cricket bats to claim some of the awards on offer at the Olympafrica Sports Development Centre in Lobamba on Friday night. Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala was a guest during the event.

Twins Zodwa and Zonke Mkhatshwa were the Best Bowler and All-Rounder respectively, in the female division.  Luyandza Mamba, who is also from the same institution of higher learning, was also in the spotlight, thanks to her flawless batting skills. She shot to fame after scoring a century in the past year’s Intervarsity Games in Lesotho.

“I fell in love with the sport about six years ago. I’m happy to be reaping the rewards of hard work,” she said.
Phumlani Sibiya, another UNISWA student, was named the Best Volunteer after investing a lion’s share of his time in cricket.
Meanwhile, former Cricket Development Director Nikiwe Nxumalo was among the big winners on the night, claiming the Lifetime Achievement accolade. She steered the Salesian Under-14 boys to back-to-back titles between 2011 and 2013.

“My dream was to introduce the sport to public schools. Cricket used to be played mainly in private schools. I’m grateful for the recognition,” said Nxumalo.
Reverend Neil Williams, whose name has become synonymous with the sport, was also dubbed a Lifetime Achiever.

Former national team star, Delisa Malinga, on the other hand, was lauded for being instrumental in introducing women cricket. He walked away with the Women Initiative award. Swaziland cricket sponsors also got recognition on the night. They were Standard Bank
Vision Care, KFC, Clover, Shop-in, Just Print and Palaistra.
