EZULWINI – Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala has labelled the new partnership of Swazi MTN and basketball as groundbreaking.

The minister, speaking through Swaziland National Sports and Recreational Council’s (SNSRC) Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa said the later had found an incredible partner in Swazi MTN.

This was during the basketball sponsorship launch held at MTN Headquarters in Ezulwini yesterday. The launch was attended by MTN Brand and Sponsorship Manager Fisiwe Vilane, Corporate Affairs Manager Mandla Luphondvo and Chief Consumer Officer, Swaziland National Basketball Association (SNBA) executive member Michelle Green, Treasurer Sipho Mamba and basketball league Chairman Melusi Hlophe just to mention a few.

“MTN continues to transform sport through much needed sponsorship. Just recently they were recognised by African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 for its worthwhile investment in sport and today we witness yet another investment in basketball on top of golf, soccer and cycling,” said Mthethwa. The chairman also spoke in his capacity as SNSRC chairman, saying they were expecting vibrancy in basketball following the sponsorship.

“We need a high level of professionalism that will encourage the sponsor to continue its investment into the sport,” added Mthethwa.
The chairman said SNSRC was committed to transforming sports in the country by creating an enabling environment through policy regulations for professionalism and commercialisation.
