FRANCISTOWN – They wanted it more than anyone could imagine. Mbabane Swallows were so determined to end their CAF interclub competitions poor performance, so much so that the team offered the players about E80 000 win bonuses to beat Orapa United on Saturday in Francistown.

The offer was communicated to the players by team Chairman Victor Gamedze during their pre-match team talk at the Minestone Hotel in Francistown.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confided to this publication later in the night.
And during the team talk, the media, which was kept outside the building, could hear the endless clapping of hands from the players and officials alike.

“The team made it clear that the players would get E2 000 for a draw and E4 000 for a win. They will get their money because they did a good job. Everyone is happy for them,” the official said.
This was echoed by another source close to the players that the incentive was not to buy them but to ensure that they fight until the end, for the team.

“The players play for the badge, but the chairman was just encouraging them to work hard and they responded well,” the source added. A couple of players also confirmed the issue later at night, but didn’t want to be quoted.
The team defied all odds to beat Orapa United who had not lost at the beautiful Francistown Sports Complex stadium since its official opening last year.
