MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders striker Mphucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini is fighting for his life at Medisun Clinic, Ezulwini.

The forward fell sick on Sunday and was withdrawn from the match day squad that played to a goalless draw against Manzini Sundowns in an MTN League game.

Upon arrival at the top clinic, where he was rushed by Chairman of the Board of Directors Zweli Jele and General Manager David Litchfield, Mphucuko was diagnosed with having a lot of fluids in his lungs.

He is currently using oxygen to breath as doctors try their level best to drain the fluids from the lungs that are complicating his respiratory system.
“Yes it is true, he is not very well and that is why he did not play any part against Sundowns. We had to rush him to hospital at around 6pm yesterday (Sunday) and it was quite serious but we trust he will get well soon,” said Litchfield when quizzed yesterday.

When the Times Sports Desk arrived at the clinic yesterday afternoon, the player was in the company of family members that included his younger sister Nondumiso and team captain Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze. “The doctors are working tirelessly to make sure he is alright,” that is all young Nondumiso was prepared to say.

‘Chocco’, on the other hand, was hopeful his teammate was going to get back to the field of play in no time. “He has improved greatly from the situation he was in when he was admitted,” the Sihlangu winger said.
