MHLAMBANYATSI – Enjabulweni High School pupil Robyn Young exhibited the strength of a dolphin when she outclassed 14 other competitors in the 14-30 females category.

This was during the 15th edition of the KPMG Swazi Mile swimming tournament held at Luphohlo dam yesterday, which was attended by 110 swimmers.
The 16-year-old Enjabulweni High form IV pupil was best as she clocked in at 26:18 minutes to win the elite first prize which came in a form of medal, bag with goodies and a trophy.

Young said it was sacrifice that saw her win the 1.4km race. “I had to shun some other activities in order to create time for training and I am happy that it paid off. I am so happy and I am hopeful I will defend this title next year,” said Young.
Coming second was Culliana Gomes at 27:35 minutes while Jenua Mjosage occupied the third spot, clocking 28:09 minutes.

In the 14-30 male section, South African swimmer Chad Hawley was the best, clocking 22:19 minutes in the process and breaking last year’s record of 30 minutes set by Simanga Dlamini.

He, however, came close to winning it this year but he was behind by eight seconds clocking 22:28 minutes. Simphiwe Dlamini also finished off well at 24:34 minutes to complete the top three bracket.
Hawley, speaking after the race, said he did not expect to win because he did not get enough time to train. “Well, it was a tough race as Simanga gave me a hard time throughout the race.

I managed to hold on to the pole position from the start to the finish. I almost gave up toward the end as I was running out of steam but I pulled through,” said Hawley.
