MBABANE – Giants Manzini Wanderers have been made to regret offloading their foreign stars.

Zimbabwe-born duo of winger, Tawana Chikore, and full-back, Tafadzwa Jaravani, as well as striker, Danny Zabo from Ivory Coast, were deemed surplus to requirements on January 12 this year. The team cannot replace the sacked foreign trio until the dismissed footballers find new clubs as per the FIFA Rules on Status and Transfer of Players, mainly professionals.

“A club that breaches a contract with a player during the protected period risks being prohibited from registering new players,” read the rules in part.
Team General Manager, Patrick Gamedze, conceded the team were caught between a rock and a hard place, saying Wanderers were crossing fingers the dismissed players would hastily join new teams.

“We’ve identified foreign players to register, but we’ll wait until the air is cleared.
“Unfortunately, I can’t disclose further details about the targeted players at this stage until the loose ends are tied,” said Gamedze.
The players joined the team at the beginning of the season and were expected to be at Wanderers at least for the next five months.

Talisman, Aladeon Kola, from Nigeria, is the only foreign player at Wanderers so far. A team can register up to five foreigners.
Wanderers have until February 3 (Friday) to register players. The day will mark the close of the second Window Registration period.

Meanwhile, Mbabane Highlanders were also in the same boat during the first leg of the current campaign after parting ways with a Zimbabwean player identified as Ramson.

The latter had only featured in the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup in August 2016 when the black and white outfit showed him the exit door. Also on transfer was defender Takawara Chimwanda but had to remain at the team to make amends.
