LOBAMBA – Peter Shongwe proved to be the most popular among sports associations to win the SOCGA President seat ahead of trendy politician Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa.

This was during the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) electoral General Assembly at OlympAfrica Sports Development Centre in Lobamba.

The meeting took six hours, only affording one 10-minute break just before the last agenda of the day, which were the elections.
It is now history that Mthethwa, a Senator in the House of Assembly, lost the elections by a mere vote, having accumulated 26 compared to Shongwe’s 27 but the truth of the matter is that he has been ousted from the seat having served as vice president in the last term.

The football fraternity will be watching with keen interest to see if Mthethwa will run for the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) presidency in their own electoral General Assembly in June.

Shongwe’s Vice President is Pearl Dlamini, the charismatic Swaziland Boxing Association (SWABA) President.
Dlamini got 37 votes to beat Wilfred McFadden hands down after the former Board member managed just 16 of the votes.
Each of the member associations were allowed to vote twice in the secret ballot with a vote each coming from members of the outgoing Board led by Zombodze Magagula.

Magaula won a place in the executive as a member alongside Zakhele Dlamini, Temangcamane Maseko and Mandisa Sigudla. However, Dlamini (Zakhele) and Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini had to be afforded a second round in the voting process after they tied with 21 apiece.
