MBABANE – CAF Champions League envoys Royal Leopard will begin their campaign in the continental club tournament on February 11.

Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane’s troops will host DR Congo’s soccer heavyweights, AS Vita Club, in their opening match of the preliminary round at Somhlolo National Stadium. Leopard Chairman Mxolisi Dlamini confirmed the date of the showdown.

“We met the Football Association and finalised the date that will be forwarded to CAF. “The finer details of the game, that include the entry fees, will be released in due course,” said Dlamini.

The sides are meeting for the second time in about two years. They crossed swords in the last 16 of the second-tier tournament, the CAF Confederations Cup in 2015. The Congolese outfit prevailed 5-2 on aggregate. The blue and white outfit had won 1-0 in the home leg, courtesy of Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo, who will be back to haunt his former team after completing a switch to AS Vita.

Leopard will play the return match a week later in Kinshasa, DR Congo. If they progress to the next round, they will face either Sewe Sports of Ivory Coast or Gambia’s Port Authority.  Winning the first two rounds will earn the stuttering Swazi MTN Premier League champions over E7 million.
