EZULWINI – The MTN Y’ello sports sponsorship milestone has received rave reviews in Africa, with a meritorious award.

The AU Sports Council Region V recognised the mobile cellphone company’s contribution to sports development in the country, stemming from the over E36 million spent in various sporting activities.

The company emerged above bigger corporations from the 14 countries of Region V. The award was communicated last month during the Region V Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, but the ceremony was eventually held yesterday at Mahlalekhukhwini House in Ezulwini, graced by the presence of Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini.

Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala attended the occasion alongside MTN Swaziland Board of Directors Chairman Senator David Dlamini, CEO Ambrose Dlamini, Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa, SOCGA President Zombodze Magagula and Secretary to Cabinet Mbuso Dlamini, to name a few.

MTN Swaziland has been a key partner of sports in the country for over 13 years. The company has been the main sponsor of the Premier League of Swaziland dating back to the 2002/2003 season when they injected E300 000 for the elite football premiership. And over the years, the amount has increased to over E3 million a year.

The current three year sponsorship is valued at over E11 million.
The premier said the company received a recognition it deserved given its long standing partnership with three sporting codes; soccer, cycling and golf.
