MBABANE – The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) has explained to membership that FIFA funding rules have now been reviewed.

NFAS CEO Frederick Mngomezulu’s explanation comes barely 24 hours after the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) reacted like an acid in an aborted press briefing called by Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze to a story carried by the Times of Swaziland yesterday that rightly reflected how Swaziland had not met the criterion to benefit from the US$50 000 allocation by FIFA to countries with a comprehensive fixture programme for their premier division. In a later day press conference, Mngomezulu reminded affiliates that funding was now implemented under a new programme styled FIFA Forward. There are two main categories under this programme; Governance and Projects.

“All the forms of funding that used to be applicable in the past, such as Goal Projects, Win in Africa with Africa, and others ceased to exist.
“For the governance category, member associations are now rated and allocated funding based on their assimilation of 10 key areas in their activities,” said Mngomezulu.
The areas include League and Integrity Programmes.
