MBABANE – Football rivalry is fast becoming an enemy to local teams as it costs them thousands of cash they desperately need.

Maroon and white side Manzini Wanderers are the latest victims to this after being slapped with two charges that could see them pay up to E75 000 if found guilty.

This is for incidents that occurred in the Ingwenyama Cup and MTN League from last December.
Their fans threw bottles on their bitter rivals Mbabane Swallows’ players as they passed their grandstand for a warm-up ahead of playing Hub Sundowns in the Ingwenyama Cup last 32 in December 2016 at Somhlolo National Stadium.

Interestingly, the two rivals were not playing head-to-head on the day in question but other opponents in the grand opening triple-header. Wanderers were against Sibovini and won the match earlier on the day.

“I can confirm that we have charged Wanderers and Royal Leopard for incidents in the Ingwenyama Cup last month and two weeks ago, respectively. For now, the charges are not out to the clubs so details can only be released tomorrow (today),” confirmed PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati when questioned about these incidents.

He would not say how many counts Wanderers and Leopard faced but the latter’s fans bayed for a referee’s blood after losing 1-0 to Young Buffaloes in the Last 16 of the Ingwenyama Cup.

“You have asked about specific incidents so you can pick it up from the rules otherwise we’re not releasing the charges yet as the clubs have not yet collected them but are well aware already,” he said.
