ELITE REFEREES HAVE TO LOOK GOOD – ‘BOMBER’

EZULWINI – Only the handful FIFA accredited referees in the country wear the coolest uniform during games and the NFAS has noted the variance.

A majority of the Premier League referees do not have the FIFA badge and wear different uniform compared to the one fans see won by Leticia Viena and Simanga Nhleko, among a few others. However, as of last Friday, that will no longer be noticeable thanks to the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS).

This after the NFAS presented the Referees Association (RA) with a national kit to be used by elite officials during all domestic games.
This was at Lugogo Sun Hotel where the NFAS Executive is having a two-day retreat.

“It has appeared to us that for some time now our elite referees wear different kits. Those with the FIFA badge are the ones who have looked good in our games, which is why the badge is a pinnacle of every referee’s career,” he said.
He said they felt they should try and align the situation to make all the elite referees look the same by donating the national kit which has yellow tops and black shorts.

“We now hope that this is only a start of good things to come and as I speak, referees have a proposal for the allowances on our table. For now, those referees not in Premier League will battle to wear the national kit while you fight for the FIFA badge as elite officials,” he said. RA Chairman Sipho Kunene, in his remarks, thanked the NFAS for coming forward and providing them with this kit.

“Not long ago, referees in the country thought they were being ignored yet they were the most important part of the game. This is a sign of good things to us but as you mentioned our allowances’ proposal, we request that you seriously look into that issue,” he said.
