MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers have released all their foreign stars, save for talisman Aladeon Kola.

A major shake-up at the maroon and white outfit late on Thursday saw the Zimbabwe-born duo of full-back Tafadzwa Javarani and versatile winger Tawana Chikore shown the exit door.  Out-of-favour forward Danny Zabo, who is set to leave for trials in Poland, is also history with the hub giants. The changes came just hours after Zimbabwe-born gaffer Julius Chakupewu, parted ways with the outfit.

The players, who joined the side at the beginning of the campaign, were featuring regularly for the improved side.  The sacking was met with mixed reactions by the team’s loyalists, especially on social media.  In essence, the adept Kola from Nigeria is now the team’s only foreign player.

Team General Manager Patrick Gamedze confirmed the latest developments and said the decisions were taken following mutual agreements with all parties involved.
Gamedze assured the supporters that the team could still bring more players on board ahead of the close of the second window registration period on February 3.

“For now, we’ve decided to make the changes. Even the foreigners who were on trials were released. However, our doors are still open to other foreign stars,” said Gamedze.
A major change also saw returning  mentor, Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, elevated to the head coach post ahead of Clement ‘King Clay’ Mdluli ,who  was calling the shots since the departure of Anthony Mdluli in the past year.  ‘Crooks’ deserves no introduction after steering the outfit to back-to-back league titles in the 2001-2002 and 2002/2003 seasons.

Gamedze said Mdluli would now be an assistant to ease his burden as he was also held up in other duties.
Meanwhile, Hlophe, who had been on national duty for over three years, assisting then coach, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, at Sihlangu, stressed  that remaining in the top four on the league charts remained top priority.
“It’s like any other job. Everyone in the team should come together for the team to succeed.

“I understand we’re currently in the top three but we can’t be too ambitious. A top four would do,” said the veteran coach.
Wanderers are currently third on the MTN League charts with 24 points in 15 attempts. They trail second-placed Young Buffaloes by only three points.
