‘RUBBER’ MUST JUST QUIT, SAVE HIS LIFE!

My dearest readers ... Football, like religion, is the opium of the masses. But what happens when the masses – which the capo dei capi (the boss of bosses) Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza, Chairman of that great institution, Orlando Pirates Football Club, describe as the ‘emotional owners of the team’ – get incensed by a club performance they bay for the chairman’s blood and his brother, nogal?

What would drive the masses to single out the chairman and his brother for blame on the disastrous performances by the legendary club, once the aristocrats of Swazi football, whose performance lately is nothing short of being disastrous. With each passing game, the black and white outfit mirrors the resemblance of the team that suffered the ignominy of being relegated from the Premier League three seasons ago, which is the greatest humiliation to befall this legendary club born in 1952 at the Swaziland College of Technology (SCOT).

The script, as it is, is rewriting itself and one hopes not. One win in seven games; eight goals conceded and only seven scored. It’s a record that does not make for riveting reading.

Sunday’s sad episode – after another embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Royal Leopard – is what broke the camel’s back for a section of the disgruntled fans, who have been calling for ‘Rubber’s head after every defeat. You know holding meetings without agenda after every loss.
They are a small group who probably did not attend the last meeting where Simelane pleaded for patience from the supporters and made an assurance that the team will compete this season.

They probably have their own agenda of ousting the incumbent chairman but the way they are going about this, is WRONG and UNACCEPTABLE. It is a shame to Highlanders and football as a whole. There are structures they can go to when they want to voice out their concerns, not this hooliganism and thuggery behaviour, which causes a huge dent to the football brand that has taken the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) years to build.
