MBABANE – In an allege search for a certain ‘sigujana’, Mbabane Highlanders fans blocked Samkeliso Mdluli’s car as the Mbabane Swallows’ convoy made it into Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday.

As a result, his car and cellphone were vandalised and the medical practitioner based at the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital has opened a case with the Lobamba police. This was during the Y’ello Sunday games where Swallows beat their sworn rivals 3-2 to jump to the summit of the MTN log standings. Police at the scene had to escort Mdluli’s car, while pushing the non-compromising fans out of the way to the parking area next to the Swallows dressing room.

It turned out there was no ‘sigujana’. After police had guaranteed his safety, Mdluli jumped out of his car to join his team in readiness for this epic clash.
‘Sigujana’ is a calabash associated with muti. It is the second time in three weeks in a fixture involving the arch rivals that a Swallows car was blocked by a section of the opposition’s supporters. In the Castle Lager Premier Challenge second leg semi-final match, a car ferrying Swallows assistant coaches Siyabonga Mdluli and Etienne Massoye had to be sneaked out through the main gate after fans believed to be of Highlanders blocked it on its way to the stadium.

When reached yesterday, Mdluli confirmed he was at the Lobamba Police Station recording a statement.
Swallows acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana lambasted the treatment they are getting from their rivals.

“It is the third time in a row that they do this to us in our games and we have identified some of the culprits with the hope the law will take its course before the end of the week,” Manana said. “At Swallows, we have a hierarchy and respect each other and our roles; and if people take it as a norm to hold their leaders hostage, hurling insults, we do not do that in this team. The current directorship has worked hard to build Swallows to be the brand it is today and insulting us and everyone involved with the team will not change what we have achieved,” he said.
