LOBAMBA – The second edition of the Ingwenyama Cup will spread its wings to the country’s four regions with the kick-off on Saturday.

The annual tournament, sponsored by the Sincephetelo MVA Fund, will feature 80 teams from the four regions of the country being Hhohho, Lubombo, Shiselweni and Manzini.

The tournament will be played in a knockout format. The eight teams to reach the quarter-finals during the regional tournament will then join the 24 teams under the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) in the elite tournament.

The Ingwenyama Cup Chairman, Prince Hlangabeza, urged all those who would be participating in the tournament to start preparations. He said they had been commissioned by His Majesty King Mswati III to announce that all was set for the tournament and it was possible that they add some events. The Ingwenyama Cup combines culture and football.

“The regional teams from Super League will play their own tournament where the winner will be crowned champions and the last eight will join the PLS teams,” he said.

There are 104 teams in all that will compete in this second edition. 80 of the teams the Super League teams and the 24 would be the PLS teams.
PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze said more information concerning the tournament would be released once they meet with the regional committees.
“We started the first edition a little bit late and now we had plenty of time on organising the games and that is why we have included the regional teams as per the tournament purpose,” he said.
Mbabane Swallows were crowned the champion of the first edition in a glamour event at Somhlolo National in the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III.
