MANZINI – Following the opening MTN League defeat to Manzini Wanderers last weekend, Moneni Pirates made the perfect response, shooting down Manzini Sea Birds at the Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday afternoon.

This time, Pirates aided their dynamic and scintillating football display with aggression especially in the last half as they came from behind to bag maximum points. It was sweet revenge for the Buccaneers as Sea Birds are the very same side that ensured they were relegated from topflight football two seasons ago.

Sea Birds had opened the scorers chart after 39 minutes through Nkosing’phile Mavimbela who beat an erratic Sicelo ‘Chucku’ Dlamini at the Pirates poles with a low shot after benefitting from a Thembinkosi Thwala corner who made an assist with his first touch after replacing Bonginkosi Dlamini.
Pirates came back spirited after the breather, with Mfan’fikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze levelling matters two minutes in.

The speedy forward was guilty of missing perfect scoring opportunities.
After eight minutes, he had a free kick bouncing off the crossbar before he fluffed a golden chance he could have converted blindfolded on his day in the 78th minute.
He also broke through to goal with six minutes remaining on referee Thulani Sibandze’s watch, but he shot straight at the welcoming hands of Mlungisi Mamba.

Crafty midfielder Xolani Mabaso had won the game for Pirates anyways two minutes before the hour mark with a shot from inside a congested big box.
Pirates unleashed on loan Mbabane Swallows midfielder Mthokozisi Nkambule and diminutive South Africa-born winger Sihle Ndaba in this match.
