EZULWINI – MTN Swaziland has spent E25.3 million on the MTN League since 2002.

This was revealed by the mobile network giants’ Chief Consumer Officer Sam Shongwe who represented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ambrose Dlamini during yesterday’s MTN League ‘inside launch’ at Mahlalekhikhini House. Swazi MTN started sponsoring the Premier League of Swaziland in the 2002/2003 season. The sponsorship then was E300 000. The company subsequently crossed the E1 million mark in the 2005/2006 season. Last season, the league was sponsored to the tune of E3.1 million.

“To date we have invested close to E19 million and have a balance of E6.3 million left to fulfil in the current sponsorship,” Shongwe said as the figures shoot to E25.3 million.

He said through the endorsement, Swazi MTN has been able to support governance and administration structures of the Premier League of Swaziland office. Swazi MTN has also been able to motivate teams and players through prize monies.

Shongwe added that they have noted concerns raised by teams Public Relations Officers (PROs) and said in as much as they were restrained by resources, their hands were open to engage further and possibly come up with initiatives that will ensure that MTN PLS games become a time of excitement for all.
