MANZINI – Tempers almost flared in yesterday’s National Referees Association of Swaziland (NRAS) meeting after an executive member was openly accused of double standards.

The gathering, which was a follow-up to the abandoned general assembly that was supposed to be held on the last day of the past month, was headlined by the continuous complaints from referees about taxation.  NRAS Vice Chairman Mfanukhona Kunene had just welcomed the membership when senior Match Commissioner Enock Nkambule asked for clarity on why an executive member was allowed to coach a team.

Vice Secretary Donald Dlamini was linked with National First Division-bound Hub Sundowns.
Nkambule got the backing of National Referees Committee member Dumisani Hadebe, who stressed that there was a tendency among certain referees to openly support other teams and defend their interests.

Dlamini was not given a chance to respond as the issue was shelved for a special general meeting to be held on a date to be confirmed. During the same assembly, the financial statement will be discussed as it was sidelined yesterday due to time constraints.
On the issue of the taxation, the membership proposed to directly approach the Swaziland Revenue Authority if they would still not get their tax certificates from the football office as they wanted to apply for rebates. They felt they were paying too much to the taxman.

Meanwhile, a decision to allow the affiliates to send their match reports through electronic mail to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) office was announced. It is with effect from this season.
About 20 referees and assistants who included Thulani Sibandze, Mbongeni Shongwe, Petros Mbingo and Zamani Simelane, were the meeting.
the affiliates to send their match reports through electronic mail to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) office was announced.
