FIFA DEMANDS IMPROVED REFEREEING STANDARD

LOBAMBA – The world soccer governing body, FIFA, is hopeful referees will flawlessly execute their duties this season.


South Africa-based FIFA Referees Instructor Carlos Henriques challenged participants to put their knowledge into practice following the end of the five-day international refereeing course at the Technical Centre in Lobamba yesterday.
“We expect an improvement and I’m confident the referees will have a good season. Stay fit,” said Henriques, who makes regular stops in the country.


Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala also felt the attendees would not have an excuse an excuse for a lacklustre performance after the classes. They also got to learn about the changes in Laws of the Games enforced in June this year.


The injured minister was represented by Undersecretary Maswazi Shongwe. “The Referees Committee will be spoilt for choice as there is more quality now,” said the minister.
Senior referees, who included the seasoned quartet of Simanga Nhleko, Mbongiseni Fakudze, Thulani Sibandze and assistant Petros Mbingo, all attended. Representative of the officials, Zamani Simelane, assured that the knowledge would be put into good use.


 National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Acting President Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama stressed on the need for match officials to handle games properly.  The course started on Monday.
