INTERNATIONAL CYCLISTS FOR INYATSI NKONYENI G2G RACE
MBABANE – International cyclists will be welcomed to the country to race in the annual Inyatsi Nkonyeni G2G Mountain Bike (MTB) Classic.
The race, which is the fifth in the Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) MTB series will be held on Saturday at Nkonyeni Golf Estate outside Sidvokodvo. The race comprise four distances being the 65km classic, 35km, 20km and the 10km for children.
CAS Secretary Menzi Tsela said they were expecting cyclists from countries including Mozambique and South Africa. Some of the cyclists will come from as far as Europe. He said the Nkonyeni race was among the toughest races in the MTB series.
Inyatsi Swazi Frontier cyclists Sifiso Mhlanga, who is the defending champion, leads in the MTB series. He won the 65km in 3:16:24 hours while second was Zauco Van Den Berg.
“Registration closes on Friday and there is no registration to take place on the day of the race. We urge cyclists to register early to avoid missing out. Entries are also available online at www.cyclevents.co.za,” he said.
Early entries will receive free cycling shirts for the 65km and arm warmers for the 35km.
Entry fees are E60 for the 10km, E100 for 20km, E160 for the 35km and E200 for the 65km classic race. The entire prize money this year is E20 000.
The first race, 65km will start at 7am.
The Nkonyeni G2G Classic MTB is a mountain bike race trailing in Swaziland’s finest bushveld terrain. Inyatsi construction is the anchor sponsor with a strong and vibrant cycling club, which seeks to promote health, fitness, social cycling and corporate social responsibility.
All finishers of the races will receive medals, while prize money and trophies will be awarded to the top finishers after the race. Accommodation is available at the Nkonyeni Golf Estate with a 20 per cent discount available.
The event has grown from just over 200 entries with the first race and last year having slightly over 400.
