LOBAMBA – Mbabane Highlanders are crying foul after they were denied their right to make another substitution in Sunday’s SwaziTelecom Charity Cup semi-final against Royal Leopard.

Goals from Barry Steenkamp and Bonginkosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini ensured Highlanders were sent packing by eventual winners Royal Leopard at Somhlolo National Stadium in this one-day tournament. Article 5:16 of the 2016 SwaziTelecom Charity Cup rules state that each club is allowed a maximum of five substitutes, inclusive of the goalkeeper per match.

However, Highlanders were afforded just three substitutions in the Leopard match; Celani Shongwe, Mphucuko Dlamini and Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane for Banele Manyatsi, Mancoba Vilakati and Sibusiso Tfwala, respectively.
The capital city giants acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sifiso Magagula said on Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services (SBIS) Sports Show yesterday morning that when they approached the fourth official for another substitution, he said they had exhausted their replacements.

“He frankly said he had not received the tournament rules,” Magagula said.
Article 5.15 of the tournament rules state that the fourth official shall check details of substitute players against the team list when a substitute is introduced during a match.

SwaziTelecom Charity Cup 2016 Management Committee (MC) Secretary John Mazibuko said according to his knowledge, referees received the tournament rules.
“It is news to me and I have not received any information, maybe if you can contact the MC Chairman,” Mazibuko said.
