MBABANE – South Africa soccer heavyweights, Kaizer Chiefs, are reportedly still keen on bringing on board some of the kingdom’s players.

The Soweto giants were heavily linked with Mbabane Swallows gifted midfielder, Felix Badenhorst, between May and June but the deal fell through the ropes.
Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung told Kickoff’s online site that all their efforts had been hampered by the fact that they had not yet identified one who was capable to play at ‘Naturena.’

Chiefs usually go for stars from neighbouring Zimbabwe. Retired forward, Sibusiso ‘Sipoko’ Dlamini, is the last local footballer to have turned out for the gold and black ensemble. Motaung could not come out clear on why Swazis were struggling to break into the side.

“On a serious note, I’ve not done an analysis and I don’t want to analyse and give an overview of what people lack. But obviously, we’ve not found what we want at the moment in Swaziland,” Motaung was quoted saying.
“We’ve been assessing players in Swaziland. Obviously in future, we will still be looking. We’ll still be analysing and assessing our neighbours,” he said.

After the failed ‘Amakhosi’ deal, Badenhorst tried his luck at  Bloemfontein Celtics from Free State alongside burly striker and teammate, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa. The duo could not win contracts at ‘Siwelele’ in the past week.
However, former Kaizer Chiefs striker Abel ‘Chacklas’ Shongwe has a different view on the issue. He said there were plenty of Swazi players who could play in any team in the South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL).
“I wouldn’t agree with Bobby’s assertion, because players like Wonder Nhleko and Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu have what it takes to play in any team in South Africa, including Kaizer Chiefs,” he said.

Shongwe, who is among the first batch of local players to sign for the Soweto giants about 30 years ago, said there was plenty of opportunities that awaited Swazi players across the border, but they only needed proper guidance.
National Under-20s coach, Gcina ‘Magiyane’ also shared the same sentiments, stressing that local players were not given enough chances to prove themselves.
“I beg to differ with Bobby. Most foreign teams have a tendency to choose players from agents they’ve worked with before,” said Dlamini.

“Some of our local players can outshine their counterparts who are currently at Chiefs,” he said. Other local players to have played for Kaizer Chiefs are pay-per-view channel, SuperSport analyst, William ‘Cool Cat’ Shongwe and Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa, among others.
