JOMA CUP TAKES CENTRE STAGE ON SATURDAY

MATSAPHA – South Africa’s Orlando Pirates legend, Dumisa Ngobe, will lead a number of former South African soccer stars this weekend who are set to participate in the annual Jomo Cup.


Ngobe will be playing alongside former Kaizer Chiefs striker, Frank ‘Disco’ Makua, in the Witbank social team in the tournament to feature eight teams at Mhlambanyatsi Sports Ground on Saturday. Four South African social teams to feature in the tournament are namely; TNT Social team (Pretoria), Mbombela, Witbank and Maxi’s Lifestyle from Durban.


From the local sides, the social teams that will face off with the South African counterparts are, namely; Gree Social, Mhlambanyatsi, Sundowns and the Dream Team.


According to organiser, Mpho Mngomezulu, the tournament will be launched on Friday at The George Hotel, starting at 6pm.
“The teams will arrive on Friday where we plan to conduct a draw for the tournament and lay down all other logistics,” he said.


Some of the South African former top players expected to honour the tournament are, namely; Simphiwe Mkhonza, an analyst at SABC Review show Soccer Zone, and former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Japie Motale (former SuperSport United player), Themba Mnguni (former Mamelodi Sundowns player), Manqoba Mkhize (former Kaizer Chiefs player) and Philani Gumede (former Amazulu).
Saturday’s tournament will be the third edition of the annual Joma Cup.
