MBABANE – Regional side, Luyengo Foxes, have run to court to demand promotion to the Manzini Super League, a third-tier in the country’s football’s league structure.

Foxes, who were campaigning in the Malkerns Promotion League in the past season, want the court to set aside a decision by the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA) to promote Dwaleni Power Sparks ahead of them.  Sparks are cited as the second respondent in the matter, with MRFA listed as the first.

In their papers filed under a certificate of urgency in the High Court, the side revealed that MRFA had pronounced Sparks as the team promoted to Super League, while the office’s secretary report had indicated that Foxes were champions. This is in reaction to the events of the regional football body’s general assembly held at Princess Pholile Hall in Malkerns on Sunday.

Foxes, through General Secretary, Bongani Dlamini, also wanted last Sunday’s annual general meeting be declared null and void on grounds that there were irregularities that included draft financial statements.
“When the secretary presented his report, he stated that it is the second respondent that has been promoted to the Super League but was quick to emphasise that he was underlining that announcement, raising suspicions on the authenticity of the announcement,” said Dlamini. He further argued that the decision to promote Sparks was not taken in a properly constituted meeting.

Apparently, Mahlanya United were adjudged to have fielded a defaulter in the championship decider against Sparks. As a result, they forfeited three points and the same number of goals to the opposition. Foxes, as an interested party, were not happy with the disciplinary process.

They claimed to have been denied access to the verdict of the disciplinary committee and other relevant documents. Before the verdict, Foxes were ahead of Sparks.  These are allegations contained in the papers and their veracity is yet to be tested in court. It is the second time for the MRFA to be dragged to court by Foxes this year . In January, the latter were against being forced to play a replay against Mahlanya United.
Foxes are represented by Mkhwanazi Attorneys in the matter that is expected to be heard this morning.
