MBABANE – Some karate athletes have already had a small taste of what it’s like to be national champions - but for many, it still remains an unreachable dream.

But this may be one dream that could possibly come true this Saturday at the Bosco Skills Centre.
The long wait is over.  The country’s various karate fighters from all styles will execute their precise moves during the Swaziland National Karate Open Championships. It will be a big day for the juniors and seniors in all the available karate styles to show what they are truly made of.

The tournament, hosted by the Swaziland Martial Arts Federation (SMAF), brings with it various divisions to allow all artists, as well as styles, to have the chance to compete. The most interesting is without doubt the full-contact division, which sees fighters play without much protection; who kick their opponents so hard, and yet form no enmity.

The event kicks off at 9.30am and there are a plethora of medals and trophies up for the taking, while for full-contact/knockdown it will be trophies and cash. The cherry on top is that entry is free.

Tournament Director Sensei Abdul Khaaliq Dlamini said that the event had two tatamis (fighting rings). To enter will cost you E50 per division, E80 for two, E120 for three and E100 for full-contact/knockdown.
Expect to feast your eyes on Taekwondo, Judo, Oyama, Kyokushin and Sosai to name a few.
