MBABANE – With only two weeks before the PLS goes to the polls for a new executive committee, current Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze has retained his seat as 13 teams gave him a thumbs up.

The elections are billed for August 4 when the PLS has its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In a press briefing yesterday by the PLS CEO John Mazibuko, it was confirmed that Gamedze would have no contender for the position of chairman.

“Our current chairman has been nominated by 13 teams with no opposition for the top post. These teams have shown faith in him so it will only be an endorsement for Gamedze in the AGM. Only one team submitted a proposal and that’s Midas City while the rest abstained,” he said.

He said teams had until Thursday at 5pm to submit their proposals and nominations even though there could be teams making late submissions which would not be included in the AGM agenda after failing to meet the deadline.
He explained that the 13 teams that nominated Gamedze also made nominations for the PLS Executive Committee members.

“The chairman together with his executive, will announce the list of the nominated people. As for now, we’re taking our report to the executive so they know who qualifies and who doesn’t then the chairman will release it to the media,” he explained.
However, he did give a clue that most of the nominees were almost the same people but insisted that was for the chairman to announce.
