MBABANE – The National Football Association of Swaziland NFAS Executive Committee will propose changes in the organisation’s constitution on Sunday.

Among those changes will be the inserting of a fixed term of office for the president, as enshrined in the recently adopted FIFA reforms. Other changes will be the amendment on the clause pertaining to the hiring of the CEO which, in the past, was the sole prerogative of the substantive president of the organisation. This is the same proposal submitted by referees for Sunday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated for Sibane Hotel. A source confided to this publication that the FA Executive Committee would table proposals to the AGM that emanate from the FIFA reforms.

“I can assure you that the executive has proposed amendments in the president’s term of office, which, in the current constitution, was not specific. The FIFA reforms have put a maximum of three terms.

The issue of the CEO hiring and position will be tabled because it also falls under the reforms. It is a given that member associations should comply with the world football mother body in terms of statues,” the source said.
The executive committee met on Wednesday night where FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu said they were looking at all the documents for the AGM.

He did confirm that there will be proposals that the executive will table to the general assembly for adoption that are a result of the FIFA reforms. However, he was quick to state that revealing them will not be proper, as it was the business of the assembly to look into them and approve.

“The executive committee has a right to table proposals especially those that come from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA because those come through the organisation’s administration organ. We are aware that there were reforms, which we can say that the speech by the President during the event will highlight some of those,” he said.

Mngomezulu said the organisation was ready for Sunday after going through all documents needed for the AGM.
“The AGM is on at Sibane Hotel on Sunday and we urge all members especially delegates to be on time. The event starts at 10am and we expect members to arrive at 9am. The event is specifically for activities reports, financial reports, and also an opportunity to look into the legislations governing football. The executive has received proposals from members and will be deliberated on the day by the assembly,” he said.

The adoption of the amendments will replace the current laws which do not have a limit for the President’s term of office. The reforms come from FIFA following the ousting of long serving President Joseph Blatter who resigned following allegations of corruption that resulted in him being banned in football for eight years.
