MBABANE – FA Vice President Mashumi Shongwe will step down from his position if he wins elections next weekend at the Shiselweni Regional Football Association (SRFA).

The trade unionist has been nominated for the position of Vice Chairman at SRFA which goes to the polls next week Saturday. And according to the FA constitution, Shongwe said he would have to step down from his seemingly senior position as FA President Adam Bomber’s second Vice President following his elections in 2013.

“I have accepted the nomination at Shiselweni and for me it is not about big positions but about serving people. It is not like I am doing something big at the FA currently, because as you know I am the third in the pecking order after Bomber and Ace Mashwama,” he said.

He said when the people from Shiselweni which is his constituency in football, come calling, he cannot turn them down.
“They have been lamenting that since I moved up to the FA the region has not been the same. I am only heeding that call. I have heard that some people want me to resign even before I am elected, and let me tell them now that I will not do that because currently, there is no law that I am violating. I am not an elected member at Shiselweni, but I am a nominated person. But when I am elected at Shiselweni I will resign from the FA,” he said.

This publication has gathered from an insider at the FA that the SRFA has written to the FA seeking advice about Shongwe’s nomination.
Article 34.10 of the FA statues forbids an elected member of the organisation to hold another position from the organisation’s affiliate. SRFA is one of the members of the NFAS.
Shongwe was elected second Vice President of the FA in a dramatic elections held in 2013.
