MBABANE – Champions of the SRIC Scara Thindwa Schools Under-13s tournament will pocket an increased E15 000.

Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC) pumped in E170 000 towards the Scara Thindwa Foundation on June 17 this year. The foundation, in turn, funded the juniors’ eight-team tournament which gets underway across four venues this morning. A prize breakdown released by Tournament Coordinator Thoba Mazibuko, revealed that the prize money for the winners shot up by E5 000 as compared to the past year.
Teams finishing second and third will walk away with E10 000 and E5 000, respectively.

“There are also individual awards that include the Golden Boot and Glove as well as the Best Coach and Player,” said Mazibuko.

Meanwhile, the wait for the youngsters to take to the field of play is over. As per the announcement during the launch, the regional representatives will first face off for a place in the semi-finals on familiar territory.  Today’s games will be played simultaneously at the Prince of Wales Ground in Mbabane, Zakhele in Manzini, Siteki Sports Ground and the refurbished King Sobhuza Stadium in Nhlangano.

Matsapha Government Primary School soccer team are the defending champions. They used the past edition’s E10 000 first prize money to fence the school’s sports field that was reportedly vandalised by drunkards.
