MBABANE – As it is election time for the PLS this year, it now looks quite obvious the newly elected chairman and his executive’s first task may be to hire a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  as John Mazibuko is now contract-less.

Despite being in office still, it has been established that his six months contract extension long ended when the league finished too. This was his second extension since his initial one year contract expired the season before last.

When it expired, he worked for a couple of weeks without one before he was officially given a three months extension and then six months more to finish the past season. This has seen him serve two seasons, beating his predecessors Zakhele Dlamini and Zwelonke ‘Sport’ Dlamini – the latter demoted into a lower position midway through his second term and decided to leave.

“It is no secret because the media has always written about my contract when it expires and extended so yes, it was long over even before the end of the league but I’m working and my wish is to see the PLS and our teams grow to greater heights even when I’m gone,” Mazibuko confirmed when reached.

Asked on what terms he was in office now, Mazibuko was sceptical but diplomatically said there was a verbal contract extension that was keeping him at work.
“I wouldn’t want to dwell much on this issue because I have a valid contract as we speak as much as it verbal. This came after the last extension of six months a while ago and I’m happy to be continuing with work as there is so much to do ahead of the elections in August,” he said.

Mazibuko conceded though that while he continues with work on the verbal contract, he believed his superiors were on it but currently it was no issue as he was given the leeway to continue work and assist prepare for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
