MBABANE – Police College had to dig deep from their reserves of courage to see-off a courageous Stones in an E2 000 winner-takes-all match on Sunday afternoon.

Pool lovers converged at Ginger’s Jazz Club for the match dubbed ‘Battle of the titans’. Despite leading 5-4 at some point, Stones surrendered the thin-as-reed advantage as Police College cruised to a 13-8 victory. Norman Khoza won the winning frame against Themba Mhlanga, who had the chance to kill off the game with only the black ball to sink and render the game on.

Khoza, Police College captain, admitted it was a tough but rather good preparatory match for them as they await the start of the Manzini Regional Pool League. He said the win did not come on a silver platter, heaping praises to their opponents who gave them a scare in the early sets.

Xolile ‘Ginger’ Ginindza, the co-director of Ginger’s Jazz Club, said they were always happy to host pool matches, calling it a friendly sport. Stones have since adopted the club as their home ground in the Mbabane Regional League. Ginger’s Jazz Club hosted a E7 000 tournament late last year and Ginindza said they were encouraged to throw another sponsorship, saying more and better things were coming.
