MBABANE – The country is celebrating a podium finish in the Polokwane Nite Series Relays event.

The quartet of Manqoba Nyoni from the University of Swaziland (UNISWA), Royal Swaziland Police’s Louis Mashaba, Andile Lusenga of Lusoti High and Mcebo Mkhaliphi representing Mhlatane  School defied odds to bag a silver medal in the 4X400 metres event staged in South Africa’s Limpompo Province.

They clocked 03:21:05 minutes. The event broadcast on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was staged on Tuesday night.
Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Secretary, Thoba Mazibuko, lauded the sprinters and middle distance runners for their tenacity when he confirmed the results yesterday.

“Mcebo Mkhaliphi, Mcebo Dludlu, Louis Mashaba and Manqoba Nyoni took part in the 4X100 metres but could not finish due a technical fault,” he said. The runners partly used the event to prepare for the Senior African Championships to be staged in Durban, South Africa late next month. It will be the last chance for sprint sensation, Sibusiso ‘SwaziBolt’ Matsenjwa and the equally forceful Mlandvo Shongwe to qualify for the Rio Olympics Games in August.
