MBABANE – As already promised two weeks ago, Mbabane Highlanders boss Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane has handed coach Merk Mwase a year contract.

The Malawian mentor led the club to the second position in the MTN League, which is their best run since May 2007.
“The coach has done a good job in his first spell. And we already said his future is secured and we have given him another season to lead the club. We are already discussing plans for the next season, and very soon he will be putting pen to paper,” he said. He said the coach would travel to Malawi for the off season break on Monday after the team’s awards.

“He will advise me on who should go and stay. But most importantly, he will be scouting for a top striker outside the country. We want to improve from this performance and we hope to reinforce the squad as well,” he said.

The gaffer was close to landing the club their first league title in over 15 years, with two games to go at the top of the table. His team, however, suffered a last minute collapse against Bad Boys when they threw away a lead with 60 seconds left on the clock.
The match ended 2-all and police side Royal Leopard sneaked in to lift the title for the third consecutive season.
