GUNS OUT FOR PLS EXECUTIVE

MBABANE – Some elite league teams now want the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) executive out of office.

This is despite the fact that the teams gave the PLS executive the thumbs up during the organisation’s last annual general meeting (AGM) held in August last year.

During their retreat in October, the teams also sang the executive committee’s praises, saying they (executive committee) were the best in the history of the local game.

All that changed, however, during last Thursday’s Board of Governors’ meeting held at Sibane Hotel, which was convened by the PLS executive in the wake of the escalating violence in the country’s football.

Leading the crusade against the executive was Royal Leopard’s Governor, Mxolisi ‘Master’ Dlamini, who challenged the constitutionality of the executive committee headed by astute businessman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze.

The meeting ended up being a showdown between the PLS chairman, who doubles up as Mbabane Swallows boss and Dlamini, who is the Royal Leopard Chairman, as both administrators exchanged heated words.

“The PLS executive committee basically wanted an input from governors on how they could tackle the issue of violence. Actually, there were just two issues on the agenda on the day. These were the issues of violence and the shortage of playing venues.

“The PLS executive also wanted to remind teams of the clause in the constitution, which calls for the deduction of points from offending teams.
“However, Dlamini challenged the executive’s constitutionality. He was obviously basing his argument on the fact that one of the executive members, Steve Horton, had no team, as Hub Sundowns were long relegated from the National First Division.

“On the issue of violence, he also accused the executive members of having dirty hands, saying they were not fit to lead the organisation. He also accused the executive committee of being in bed with the teams PROs. He said the team PROs were now a law unto themselves and they (PROs) failed to report back to the teams because they were protected by the executive committee,” said one of the governors who attended the meeting but spoke on condition of anonymity.
