LOBAMBA – Correctional Services ensemble Green Mamba slew Red Lions mercilessly before blowing them to smithereens in a completely one-sided MTN League second round encounter played at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Banele ‘Barney’ Mdluli was on fire, as he grabbed a hat-trick in the tie played under extremely cold conditions and watched by a pathetic crowd of less than 200 soccer fans.

Following the result, Green Mamba are now sixth on the log standings. They have displaced Manzini Wanderers, who have been relegated to seventh following their loss to Midas City at the same venue in the main game.

Green Mamba could afford to rest some of their key players ahead of next weekend’s SwaziBank Cup final against Mbabane Swallows.
On the bench were the likes of marksman Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini, attacking midfielder Mcebo Mdluli and Zimbabwean anchorman Sande Blessing. Speedy striker Civil Matsebula and tough tackling defender Sanele Chauke were on the stands. It did not matter though, as ‘Barney’ and co had little if any problems going past the disjointed Red Lions side.

Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini once again watched in horror and in disbelief, as his charges succumbed under pressure to finally lose the game 5-0.

Relegation

Red Lions remain on the ninth spot with 21 points and yes, not entirely safe from the dreaded relegation axe.
Yesterday, they were not like lions but rather like sheep to the slaughter. They offered no resistance and cracked at the slightest pressure.
Green Mamba opened the floodgates only eight minutes after lady referee Letticia Viana’s first whistle. Fast improving winger Shaka Nkwanyane was at the end of a well worked move and the forward easily beat Banele Dlamini between the Red Lions’ goalposts.

About 13 minutes before the break Mdluli scored his first and his team’s second goal with a simple tap-in after a cross on the left flank by the impressive Muhle Shiba.

It took Green Mamba about nine minutes after the restart to increase the tally and put the game beyond Lions reach with the third goal. Mdluli out jumped the defence to nod home clinically after another gift wrapped cross from Shiba, as Red Lions struggled with the pace of the opposition.
Five minutes later Mdluli was back to complete his first hat-trick of the season with a simple tap-in from close range.

Shiba then crowned a masterly display with a well taken goal – the  best of the day really about two minutes later. He let fly a blistering shot from the edge of the danger area, which rocked the roof of the net.
It was the last nail in Lions’ coffin.
