MBABANE – Following a lengthy meeting on Monday afternoon, the SwaziBank Cup Management Committee (MC) has ordered a replay of the abandoned fixture between Hub Sundowns and Malanti Chiefs.

This in more ways than one is also the MC’s acknowledgement of the fixture mess that saw Malanti arrive late for their match, which was rescheduled from 4pm to 2pm but they only received the purportedly amended fixture on Friday just before 5pm.

“The truth is we met as an MC and considered the letter by Malanti whereby after lengthy discussions, we all agreed that the match was to be replayed and the team compensated as per the Rules and Regulations of the tournament,” confirmed the MC Chairman, Johannes ‘Ace’ Siboza yesterday.

Asked if the decision for a replay meant that they spotted their faults and found out how the second fixture was done as well as what would happen to the culprit(s), Siboza said a decision has been reached. “We did our research but we also have people, a Board, above us which we report to, so the issue of the fixture is going to be dealt with by the Board, which comprise SwaziBank MD Zakhele Lukhele, NFAS President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa and PLS Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze,” he explained. He said if the Board found that they failed to do the job with the integrity they ought to have, they would go with any action taken.

“In football you are never the last person, so the Board will direct us on that one but we have our report on the matter and will table it to them,” Siboza said, without wanting to commit himself who was behind the latest fixture, which he and other members of the MC disowned.

He explained that while they were uncertain when the match would be replayed, they will be having another meeting before the end of the week to look at a suitable date but certainly after the CAF Champions League match pitting giants Mbabane Swallows against Rwanda’s champions APR FC on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium. Malanti also confirmed that they got a positive response from the MC.
