BIG BEND – Midas City coach Caleb Ngwenya admitted that their 1-0 win over First Division side Sikhalo Se-Africa did not come on a silver platter on Saturday.

Khetho Mkhontfo scored the only goal of the match a minute before the quarter hour mark, tapping home on the half volley from close range after benefiting from a Linda Msibi free kick. Ngwenya applauded his charges for not losing focus after picking to yellow cards in the opening stages.

Striker Simanga ‘Pule’ Shongwe, who was up against the team that nurtured his blossoming career and Linda found themselves in the referee’s book as Sikhalo refused to show respect to their much fancied opponents.

“Definitely it wasn’t an easy game, very close and tightly contested. On our part, we did well to remain disciplined and never lost focus,” he said.
City’s best finish in the SwaziBank Cup is the last four and the National Under-23 coach refuses to set any targets for the 13th edition, saying they will take each game as it comes.

Sikhalo coach Ben Ndlovu praised his charges for what he termed a fantastic second half showing.
“We had them defending with their backs against the wall for prolonged periods in the second half. I think we could have won it and had about six corner kicks in the last half but we will have to shift focus to the league,” Ndlovu said.
