MBABANE – The champions of ‘The Beat Goes On 2’ basketball tournament will pocket E2 000 in the males team while the ladies will get E1 000.

The tournament that kicked off yesterday evening will see the finals played tomorrow with about 20 games played today at the Coronation Park.
The tournament is hosted by Jazz Basketball Club and it’s non-sponsored. The prize money will come from the registration fees. Each team paid E500 to be part of the tournament.

The runner-up in the men’s’ category will pocket E1 000 while in the women’s it is winner takes all as there are only three teams that registered, namely Storm, Enjabulweni and Superladies.
Jazz Basketball Club’s Bongani Shiba said if it may happen that it rains, they will have to postpone the tournament, as they are playing outdoors.

Jazz was to face Knicks and Imbumbe was to play Heat at 6pm and 7pm, respectively in the grand opening matches yesterday evening. Shiba then released the rules and regulations of the tournament.
“Games are played in 20 minute halves, running time for group stages and 12 minute quarters running time for finals with last 2 minutes of the last quarter being stopping time. Overtime will be five minutes for all games. A team has five minutes after a finished game to enter the court otherwise they pay E50 fine and/or forfeit. Ladies play a round robin system and the top two teams play in a final. A win is three points,” he said.

Shiba said in case of a tie, teams will be separated by their own head to head scores. Point difference will not be used as a separator, unless otherwise stated and all the latest FIBA rules and regulations will apply. In case of an unclear case, the organising committee reserves a right to make decisions regarding the rules.

He said players, coaches, officials and teams are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsman like and appropriate manner on and off the court for the duration of the tournament.
He said the organisers reserve the right to make the final decision/judgement in all cases regarding conduct and misconduct of players, coaches and teams.
The teams that are playing in the tournament include Jazz (hosts), Wolfpack, Oilers, Raptors, Knicks, Superstars, Heat, Hawks, Pacers and Imbumbe while the ladies teams are Storm, Enjabulweni and Superladies.
