MBABANE – The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), John Mazibuko, is stepping down from the position.

He is expected to vacate office at the end of the month. Already tipped to replace him is the organisation’s Chief Operations Officer (COO), Pat Vilakati, the erstwhile Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA) Secretary.
Mazibuko, the former Swaziland National Tennis Association President, confirmed yesterday that he was leaving the organisation after almost three years.

“It is true that I will be leaving office at the end of the current month but I would rather not say much for now,” said the veteran administrator.
He replaced the first female CEO of the organisation, Nqobile Magagula, who quit for a job at the Swaziland Posts and Telecommunication Corporation (SPTC).
No PLS executive member could be drawn to comment on the latest development, as Mazibuko is yet to be engaged on the matter.

“It is true that he will be leaving. He did discuss it with the PLS executive which felt they should not stand in his way, having served the organisation diligently.
“He wants to face new challenges elsewhere and Pat (Vilakati) will replace him when he leaves.
“We have accepted his wish and desire to move on. He is also grateful to have amassed experience working as the organisation’s COO before being elevated to the position of CEO,” an executive member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.

Mazibuko will become the second PLS employee to leave the organisation in recent times following the departure of former Brand Manager Lindiwe Matsenjwa. Matsenjwa has since joined Swazi TV.
Mazibuko first joined the organisation as COO in 2013. He was promoted to the position of CEO when Magagula left to join SPTC last year and has held the position since.

He is the sixth CEO in the history of the organisation after Vulindlela ‘Vuli’ Kunene, Sidney Simelane, Zakhele Dlamini, Zwelonke ‘Sport’ Dlamini and Magagula.
