MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders patrons have ruled that the ladies team formed by staunch supporter Sikelela Mhlanga must be abolished.

After Wednesday night’s meeting with the team’s Managing Director (MD) Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, the patrons agreed that the right channels were not followed when the team was formed.

Highlanders’ ladies team made its debut in the Women Football League last Sunday and lost 7-0 to Mbabane Swallows in a game played at the Trade Fair Ground.

After allegedly getting permission from one of the patrons, Mhlanga formed the team and registered it with the Women Football Association (WFA) for the 2015/16 season.

Simelane was not involved in the process despite holding the license over the team after being granted a five-year contract to run the capital city giants. Simelane is only in his third year after successfully retaining the ‘Bull’s elite league status following their relegation in the 2012/13 season.
Secretary to the patrons Lucky Mahlalela could only confirm the meeting with the MD but was evasive on the issues discussed, saying administrative issues could only be communicated by Simelane and his management team.

Simelane, on the other hand, revealed that a decision to the effect that the team must be abolished was collectively taken at the meeting. He confirmed a meeting with his Management Committee (MC) and Mhlanga on Tuesday where a decision to meet the patrons the following day was taken.
