EZULWINI – Visiting South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout is leading the pack after round one of the prestigious King’s Cup Golf Tournament.

Bezuidenhout finished on five-under-par 67 at the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Course yesterday, ahead of Sipho Bujela, who was a stroke behind. None of the country’s golfers were in the top 10 but Raymond Mathonsi shot a one-under-par 71 to be ranked 12th.

Meanwhile, one of the country’s youngest golfers, Gift Zulu, who is still an amateur but got exempted  to take part in the event, was excited on rubbing shoulders with the continent’s best but was disappointed to find himself out of the top 50 after struggling on hole 14.
“It is fun. I hope for a better score tomorrow because there is no cut,” the 18-year-old said.

The tournament is played in Stroke Play and will be decided after 36 holes. There is no cut. Prizes are up to the 30th based golfer. A PRO-AM will be held tomorrow for the top 30 players of the tournament. Today marks the decider in the tournament. It is played under the Sunshine Big Easy Tour banner for the first time this year.
