MBABANE – Premier League outfit, Manzini Sundowns, have shown their caring side by partnering with charity organisation, Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation.

The partnership will see the charity organisation’s logo appearing in all the team’s merchandise, including the playing kit. Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa said the move was prompted by the side’s desire to create awareness on epilepsy.

“This is a humanitarian gesture as the team expects nothing in return. Corporate sponsors would have loved to have partnered with the team to market their brands but we’ve chosen to support the noble cause.

The team’s well defined structures and green and yellow colours have made it easy for the organisation to relate with us.”
Matsenjwa said team Chairman Mark Carmichael also embraced the idea because of the alarming statistics of epilepsy cases in the country and to eradicate the stigma associated with the condition. Over 100 000 people in the country are reportedly epileptic.

“Footballers can also be epileptic, so the team is a perfect vehicle for driving the ‘kicking out epilepsy stigma’ concept,” Matsenjwa said. The partnership is in phases and involves printing the team’s merchandise with the epilepsy logo and branding at stadia.

“We’re proud of the partnership as most teams in the world are only interested in having financial partners. The rest of teams will benefit as epilepsy gazebos will also be at stadia during games,” he said.
