LOBAMBA – The scorching heat that swept across Lobamba yesterday morning would have forced many to remain indoors under the comfort of air conditioners.

Well, there are no air conditioners at the Somhlolo National Stadium.  Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga and his boys obviously did not care. Sihlangu had other ideas.

The blazing sun did not seem to bother Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze and co. Mphikeleli ‘Rabbo’ Dlamini pulled off wonderful saves, Mxolisi ‘General’ Lukhele covered every blade of the artificial turf, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu pulled the strings like a true army general in a battle field, while Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo was like a hungry shark, which has just spotted prey, darting in and out of the danger zone with impeccable precision.

It was all in the day’s work for the national pride, which faces a stern test of character against Malawi’s Flames on Sunday.
Presently on top of Group L of the African Nations Cup Qualifiers, Sunday’s game will no doubt surely go a long way in determining Sihlangu’s fate.

The training:

After intense warm up sessions, which included jogs and sprints around the pitch, the players were then taken through a gruelling physical workout.
The workout required the players to do various exercises under the watchful eyes of the squad’s technical bench headed by Bulunga, his assistant Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe and goalkeeper coach Sipho ‘Shilton’ Dube.

The players worked out with hula-hoops, cones and other equipment aimed at boosting the players’ stamina and endurance.
The coach explained that for the past two days they were focussing on ensuring the players were fit and geared to last the gruelling 90 minutes of intense football.
