MBABANE – The Swazi Telecom Charity Cup sponsor, Swaziland Post and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) has assured that the four most voting teams have met the tournament’s qualification criteria.

This newspaper revealed the four teams to feature in this year’s Swazi Telecom Charity Cup Spectacular yesterday.
A section of the sporting fraternity was misled into believing that the voting had been extended to determine teams to qualify, yet the process was extended for a day to ensure that at least one team wins the E400 000 worth Quantum.

Speaking yesterday morning SPTC Corporate Communications Manager Nqobile Magagula said the four teams, army side Young Buffaloes, Mbabane Swallows, police ensemble Royal Leopard and Manzini Wanderers met all the requirements of qualifying.

“It would have been unfair to the four teams had we extended the voting to enable other teams to qualify for the tournament when the four had clearly met all the set requirements. For instance, each of the four teams were able to pump in the minimum requirement of 100 000 votes by the initial deadline, which was Sunday midnight.

“They met the deadline, hence their right to play in the tournament will not be determined by the extended voting deadline, which is only meant to ensure that at least one team wins the Quantum,” she said.

The tournament will be played on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium, having reverted back to its initial format of being a one-day four-team tournament.

The tournament’s draw is expected to be held this morning at SPTC.
Swallows are the defending champions, having beaten Leopard after penalties in last year’s final of the tournament.
