ELANGENI – A Mozambican man and his Swazi friend were killed after the driver of a car, in which they were travelling, lost control and crashed while allegedly trying to escape from Matsapha traffic police yesterday morning.

They died on the spot when the vehicle, a Corsa Lite, hit an electricity pole. This happened at 5am at Langeni, a few kilometres from Lozitha.
Lobamba police are said to have arrived at the scene at 6:15 am, an hour after Mjaji Thobela, the 35-year-old Mozambican national and Kini Nkwanyana had died on impact.

Passenger Sandile Nxumalo and Melusi Nkwanyana, the driver, were admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital in a critical condition while Nathi Lushaba was treated and discharged.
Lushaba was able to speak to Times SUNDAY reporters a few hours after the tragic occurrence.
This newspaper established that one of the occupants was almost put in a body bag on assumption that he was dead but he lifted his hand to show the paramedics from the Swaziland Fire and Emergency Services that he was still alive.

The five young men were travelling in a Corsa Lite hatchback yesterday morning when they were involved in the car accident.
They were from a local tavern, where they had gone to buy alcohol to serve to guests at a traditional wedding (kuteka ceremony) for Lushaba, the survivor of the car crash. Lushaba had been sitting in the backseat of the car when the tragic drama unfolded.

He had married his wife very early in the morning, as is the custom, and his friends wanted to throw a congratulatory party for him.
Except for the deceased Mozambican national, the four men worked for BL Harbet International, a company contracted to build the new United States Embassy in Ezulwini.

Swazi police are very reckless and they never take responsibilities for their recklessness. What they are good at is denying things. How can they chase after a vehicle and deny it?We need a law to protect us from police brutality.
